SYNOPSIS

Ur So Sweet is a darkly comic drama about Razz, a validation-starved young woman in a world where women are made of cake. Taught that sweetness is the only way to be chosen, she’ll do anything to prove herself desirable—even if it means serving herself up. Her pursuit of male validation takes her into Jack’s arms, where affection turns predatory and her need to be wanted becomes the very thing that consumes her. Layered with satire and bite, the film explores how women are conditioned to equate value with sweetness, and the cost of being devoured by that hunger.

Ur So Sweet immerses viewers in a surreal, confectionery world where women are edible delicacies. As the Production Designer, I crafted a visual language that captures both the sweetness and the unsettling objectification of the story’s universe. The central character, Razz, lives in a pastel-hued space filled with dessert-inspired textures and edible beauty products, symbolizing her internal struggle with validation and self-worth.

The set design utilizes a soft, pastel palette—gentle pinks, mint greens, and creamy whites—to evoke an innocent, sugary ambiance that contrasts with the film’s darker themes. Razz’s room is filled with whimsical details, from powdered sugar as foundation and whipped cream as moisturizer to marshmallow sponges, each element underscoring the superficiality she feels pressured to embody. These “sweet” touches are juxtaposed against moments of raw vulnerability, as Razz realizes the cost of shaping herself to please others.

Through this aesthetic, the design emphasizes both the playful and the haunting aspects of Razz’s world, enhancing her emotional journey. Each space, texture, and color was chosen to deepen the story’s metaphor, creating a unique and immersive visual experience that reflects Razz’s bittersweet quest for self-acceptance.
